Location:
The Cannery is located within easy commuting distance of the city of Vancouver on the southwest coast of British Columbia Canada, in the fishing village of Steveston.

From Downtown, take Granville Street South to Hwy 99 to Steveston Exit, Steveston Highway West to No. 1 Road, No. 1 Road South to Chatham Street, Chatham Street West to Fourth Avenue, Enter Parking Lot

General Information:
One of BC's few historically intact canneries, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery commemorates the history of Canada's West Coast fishing industry from the 1870's to the present.

Age Group:
Babies & Toddlers: Don't make a special trip just with a baby. If the baby is accompanying an older child, then by all means bring the baby along. He or she is bound to get something out of the outing.

Older Children: Great for older children especially, if the child is interested in fishing.

What is there to Do and See?
Fishing for family fun? Catch the fascinating history of the West Coast fishing industry at this historic salmon cannery. Dynamic multi-media exhibits, 'hand-ons' activities, guided tours, machine demonstrations & surround-sound theatre.

Inside the massive wooden building visitors will experience an introductory film, guided tours with knowledgeable interpreters, and interactive exhibits. This vibrant heritage is justly celebrated in the picturesque fishing village of Steveston, home to Canada's largest fishing fleet as well as many tempting shops and restaurants.

The Cannery Store is a gift shop filled with treasures and souvenirs with a fishing industry theme, and many only available at the Cannery.

Learn about Canada's west coast fishing industry and the important role women played in its development. Walk through the late 19thcentury building where Chinese, Japanese, Aboriginal and European fishermen and plant workers toiled long hours to process mountains of sockeye salmon.

Sample the authentic sights, sounds, images and artifacts of the massive 4,500-square-metre cannery. Learn about seining, gillnetting, trolling, longlining, trawling and trap fishing and all the gear involved.
