Age Group:
Babies: Don't make a special trip just with a baby. If the baby is accompanying an older child, then by all means bring the baby along. He or she is bound to get something out of the outing.

Toddlers: Toddlers will love the carousel (as long as they don't mind the loud music) and will likely enjoy most of the exhibits just for the visuals, particularly the interactive ones like the blacksmith's shop, the printing shop and the "Elworth" Garage Children's Play Area. There's also lots of room to run around.

Older children: Older children will likely get more out of the historical aspect of the Heritage Village. You can discuss what life must have been like in the days before television. How people amused themselves, the different kinds of jobs people had (many of which are now replaced by computers and robotic devices, etc.). And everyone, kids and adults alike, will get a kick out of the carousel. Don't forget that the horses on the outside are galloping at 10km/hour!

What is there to Do and See?
Life in the 1920s. A visit to the Burnaby Village Museum has something for all ages. , the museum is a step back to the 1920s. Experience life as it might have been in Burnaby. Self-guided tours let you explore the farmhouse and village at your own pace! Period-costumed interpreters welcome guests into the various homes, businesses and shops of a traditional village along the BC Electric Railway tram line. An exciting must for every visitor is a whirl on the fully restored historic 1912 CW Parker Carousel. Rides are accompanied by music from a grand 1925 Wurlitzer organ.
Pick up site map in English, Spanish, French, Korean, Japanese or Chinese and start the self-paced tour:

At the farmhouse -
- check out the tin ceilings, reproduction wall paper, identify what's growing in the vegetable garden

Walk across the bridge to town to -
- meet the school teacher in the one room school
- read the billboard for the next show time in Brookfield Hall
- talk to the blacksmith at the forge $ listen to the Chinese herbalist
- see what's coming off the press at the printshop
- look at the listings in the Real Estate window then step inside to make a heritage craft
- head to the Elworth garage - it's been converted to a Toy Room filled with replica period toys (they may look simple but they take a steady hand and practice)
- take in the current exhibit at Stride Studios
- decide which house you would want to live in: Elworth, the bachelor pad, the log cabin or the farmhouse

Amenities include an ice cream parlour which offers a menu for light meals and snacks, picnic tables, and a gift shop. The site is wheelchair accessible.
An outing loaded with fun and history! There are two bangs for your buck here: the 1912 antique wooden carousel, and the Heritage Village.

The carousel is a beautiful and meticulous restoration of a 1912 classic which was first operated at the Lone Star Circus in Houston Texas. The beautiful horses, coupled with the music from the 1925 Wurlitzer Organ really takes one back in time.

There are 36 wooden horses, 1 chariot, 4 cast aluminium ponies (for smaller riders) and a wheelchair. This thing really moves: speed on the inside track is 5km/hour, 7.5km/hour in the centre and 10 km/hour on the outside track. It may not sound fast, but it certainly moves at quite a clip! Riders must be aged 1 or more to ride. Caregivers can accompany younger kids and stand beside their horses.

Highlights
• "Elworth" Garage is great for younger kids. It's a children's play area with lots of "old fashioned" wooden toys.
• Central Park Theatre shows silent movies of the period. When we went, we say a Charlie Chaplin film.
• At Wagner's Blacksmith Shop, you can watch a blacksmith in action, fashioning tools and tidbits out of steel. If it's not busy, you might even get a little something to take home.
• Of course, the carousel.
