Built in 1986, the Dr Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is the first full-scale Classical Chinese garden built outside of China in 400 years using traditional techniques and craftsmanship. The architecture, rocks, plants and water are carefully combined to create the same serene and enchanting landscape as found in the old private gardens of China’s elite during the Ming dynasty.

The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is a non-profit organization that seeks to maintain and enhance the bridge of understanding between Chinese and Western cultures through programs, exhibitions. Complimentary tour and tea are offered daily.

Fifty-two master craftsmen from Suzhou China, working with Canadian counterparts, completed this landscape masterpiece within a year. The intricate halls and walkways are constructed with precise joinery and without the use of nails, screws or glue. The Garden opened on April 24, 1986.

Chinatown is easily accessible by car or transit and is a pleasant walk from downtown Vancouver along the historic Silk Road route. We are easy to find at 578 Carrall Street (near the corner of Carrall and Keefer), next to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Public Park.
